In Northern Uganda, too many children still stay home while classrooms sit half-empty. Poverty, distance and lost opportunities have dimmed the dreams of a generation. Now is the moment to change that story.
Dero Kwan (The Education Granary) is a ten-year scholarship programme (2025 – 2035) uniting Acholi people and friends worldwide to bring learning back to every child.
Our first mission is clear: raise UGX 20 billion between November 2025 and April 2028 to rebuild education across Acholiland.
Every Empty Desk is a Call to Act
Even in peace, education in the North remains fragile.
Only 52 percent of villages have a nearby school; in Kampala it is 100 percent.
Just 34 percent of pupils complete primary school, and many finish unable to read or do basic maths.
Hidden fees, uniforms and materials make school unaffordable for thousands.
Teenage pregnancy and early marriage push countless girls out of class.
Behind every statistic is a child who could have led, taught, healed or built.

In Acholi culture, the granary keeps the seeds of tomorrow.
Dero Kwan fills that granary with knowledge, opportunity and hope.

The Dero Kwan Scholarship Selection Committee is led by respected educators and leaders from the Acholi region, ensuring fairness and integrity in every decision.

Dero Kwan Endowment Fund
Beyond 2028: The Dero Kwan Endowment Fund
After the initial fundraising, the Endowment Campaign will run from January 2026 to December 2030.
This next stage will focus on institutional donors including the Government of Uganda, parastatals, private companies, international agencies and foundations.
The goal is to raise US $50 million to sustain the Dero Kwan scholarships for the long term and ensure that every Acholi child continues to have access to education for generations.
