This December, Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the distinguished Governor of Kisumu County in Kenya, will make a historic ancestral homecoming to Acoliland.
For us, the Acoli, this is far more than a visit.
It is the return of a brother.
It is a reaffirmation of identity.
It is a celebration of unity across borders.
This moment fills our hearts with pride and excitement.
A Milestone in Luo Unity
The Governor, together with the First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o and an official delegation from Kisumu, will join us too as one Luo community united by ancestry, culture and history.
Their homecoming stands as a powerful symbol of our shared roots and the unbreakable bond between the Acoli of Uganda and the Luo of Kenya.

12 December 2025 Welcome to Uganda
Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o will be warmly welcomed to Uganda.
A private dinner in their honour will take place that evening.
13 December 2025 Acoli Ribbe Lwo Festival
Our honoured guests will attend the Acoli Ribbe Lwo Festival as Guests of Honour, joining the Acoli and wider Luo community in a powerful celebration of culture and unity.
14 to 17 December 2025 Piny Luo Conference
The Governor and First Lady will participate in key moments of the Piny Luo Conference, engaging with Luo leaders and communities on heritage, identity and shared purpose.
18 December 2025 Return to Kenya
The homecoming visit will conclude as the Governor and First Lady continue their onward journey, carrying with them the warmth, gratitude and unity of the Acoli people.

A Grand Welcome in Gulu
The moment they arrived, Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and Lady Dorothy Nyong’o were met with an extraordinary welcome from the people and leaders of Gulu.
The city stood tall, drums rose, voices united and the spirit of the Luo embraced them with pride and honour.
This was not just a welcome.
It was a declaration of love, unity and shared heritage from the heart of Acoliland.
Engagement with Gulu City Leadership
Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, Governor of Kisumu County, together with Dorothy Nyong’o, paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Mayor of Gulu City. During the visit, they met with a cross-section of city councillors and local leaders.
The engagement formed part of the Governor’s historic tour of Acoliland and provided an opportunity for dialogue, mutual respect and the strengthening of ties between leadership and community during this significant homecoming.

Honouring the Acoli Martyrs of Faith
As part of his tour of Acoliland, Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, Governor of Kisumu County, and Lady Dorothy Nyong’o, accompanied by the ROCCO PACO co-chairs, paid a solemn visit to the resting place of two revered Uganda Martyrs from Acoliland, Blessed Daudi Okello and Blessed Jildo Irwa.
This moment of remembrance honoured the courage, faith and sacrifice of these great sons of Acoli, whose lives and witness continue to inspire generations. The visit served as a powerful reflection on moral leadership, spiritual heritage and the enduring values that anchor the Acholi people and the wider Luo community.

Honouring a Martyr of Faith and Conscience
During their visit to Acoliland, Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and Lady Dorothy Nyong’o paid a solemn visit to the burial place of Archbishop Janani Luwum, laid to rest in his home village of Mucwini, Kitgum District.
This moment carries deep meaning for our people and our nation. Archbishop Janani Luwum stands as a symbol of courage, truth and moral leadership. He gave his life for justice, faith and the dignity of humanity at a time when speaking the truth came at the highest cost.
By visiting his resting place, the Governor and his wife honoured not only a great son of Acoliland, but also the enduring values he stood for. It was an act of remembrance, respect and reflection, reminding us that leadership grounded in principle, sacrifice and integrity leaves a legacy that outlives generations.
This visit connects our present to our history and calls us to uphold the courage, unity and moral strength that Archbishop Janani Luwum embodied. It is a powerful reminder that our roots are anchored in faith, resilience and the unwavering pursuit of what is right.

A Celebration of Acoli Culture in Madiopei
In Madiopei, Kitgum District, Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and Lady Dorothy Nyong’o were warmly received with a vibrant showcase of Acoli traditional dance and cuisine, a true expression of the richness of our culture and hospitality.
They were accompanied by our co-chairs, Hon. Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo and Ambassador Olara Otunnu, whose presence further underscored the importance of this moment for our community.
The energy, colour and pride on display reflected the very best of Acoli tradition. From the rhythm of the dances to the flavours of our traditional foods, the day stood as a celebration of identity, unity and shared heritage.
